theGYMkc's Commitment to Your Health / airPHX Air Filtration Systems

7/22/2020

Did you know theGYMkc has installed state-of-the-art air filtrations systems in each of our locations? airPHX is an air filtration system that "generates oxidizing molecules from ambient air. [These] oxidizing molecules eradicate pathogens at a cellular level ... such as Coronavirus, norovirus, staph, influenza, mold, rhinovirus, MRSA, and the odors they cause." These systems not only treat the air; but they also treat the surfaces of the gyms.

CONTINUOUS CLEANING: airPHX/SPORTS devices provide "state-of-the-art protection from germs. The cleaning agents [the] technology produces can kill microbes in the air and on surfaces. This process also eliminates odors from bacteria."
**** SOURCE: https://www.airphxsports.com/ ****

Gym-Tested and Approved
"airPHX | SPORTS has undergone rigorous testing in both laboratory and real-world conditions. Before and after testing of air and surface samples show the real effect of an airPHX device on the germs in a variety of fitness locations.

From the air in a locker room, to the grips of each dumbbell and even on turf, airPHX routinely delivers reductions of 95% or more in microbial contamination. Clients with allergies will notice how deep they can breathe, and those with sensitive noses will find a refreshing lack of 'gym odors' like body odor or outgassing equipment."

How Does it Work?
“airPHX devices produce a proprietary blend of oxidizing molecules that are generated when ambient air goes through our plasma cell. These are molecules that occur naturally in most environments, but airPHX produces them in a unique mixture and in levels that are both extremely effective in killing germs and well below safe levels as established by health regulations. Because it requires no chemicals or liquid additives, the airPHX process is organic and safe.”

Does airPHX Work?
"airPHX devices have been thoroughly tested in laboratory and real world athletic facilities. a single airPHX device can treat up to 200,000-250,000 cubic feet of air and surfaces."
**** SOURCE: https://www.airphxsports.com/faq ****

How do I know airPHX | SPORTS is working?
"Once installed, the technology will begin to eliminate bioburden and clean the environment as a whole. As a result, you will begin to notice a fresh smell as the air becomes cleaner."

Monday, June 29, 2020: New Kansas City Order

7/1/2020

In compliance with the amended order of Mayor Quinton Lucas
and the City of Kansas City, Missouri:

Starting MONDAY, June 29, 2020

ALL persons entering ANY facility operated by theGYMkc
MUST WEAR A MASK or CLOTH FACE COVERING.
The mask or face covering must be worn at all times.

Here is a link to the city's website where you can read more:
Face coverings to be required indoors in KCMO

theGYMkc Reopening Plans: May 15th at 6am

5/11/2020

As of today [Monday, May 11], gyms are being allowed to reopen on Friday, May 15. We are still waiting for the City of Kansas City to release the guidelines set specifically for gyms. For now, here is what theGYMkc is doing.

You’ll notice various changes in the way our gyms look as well as new practices and protocols ... that have been added to our already existing practices and protocols. There will be new signage to remind people to maintain the recommended 6-foot social distance, to remind them to wash their hands, and to remind them to wipe down the equipment before and after use. We understand these changes may be difficult, but by making these changes for the short term and working together, we can better navigate our "new normal" in the long term.

Here are some things we have already implemented and/or will be implementing to help keep our gyms safe and to help support you:
  • All theGYMkc front desk staff will be required to wear face masks correctly throughout their shifts.
  • Our employees have been asked to stay home if they feel unwell or if they’ve been in contact with someone who is/has been sick.
  • There will be more frequent cleaning and sanitizing ... especially in high-traffic areas.
  • We are implementing an updated, more thorough cleaning protocol, which includes a stronger antimicrobial cleaner, more detailed task list, and added protections for staff.
  • Our door entry hand scanner is sanitized throughout the day. Our biometric hand scanners contain a silver-based antimicrobial agent … which is embedded into the materials used to produce the platen, providing a finish that inhibits the growth of a broad spectrum of bacteria, mold, and fungi and remains active for the life of the hand scanner.
  • As before the closure, there will be access to hand sanitizer in the gyms.
  • The antimicrobial wipes were implemented prior to the government shutdown. They will continue to be available. We ask that you limit the amount of wipes that you use for each cleaning. One wipe is sufficient for cleaning a piece of equipment. Hand sanitizer and antimicrobial wipes are in high demand … so we need to be cognizant of not using more than necessary.
  • We eliminated sweat towels when we installed the antimicrobial wipe stations. This is to help decrease the likelihood of viral transmission to our staff [since they will no longer be handling potentially contaminated towels].
  • All of the bathrooms are stocked with antibacterial hand soap for handwashing.
  • You will be asked to maintain the CDC's suggested 6-foot distance from front desk staff, personal trainers, and members.
  • We have eliminated yoga mats, foam rollers, boxing gloves, boxing wraps, cloth wraps, resistance bands, ect because these items are difficult to thoroughly sanitize.
  • We will continue having the carpet flooring professionally cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis.
  • The cardio equipment has been blocked and positioned so there is the recommended 6-foot distance between each person.
  • As policies and requirements change, we will communicate these to you. We are taking steps to ensure your health and safety and are taking measures to support you and our community.
  • There will be new limits on the number of people allowed to gather in rooms and communal areas at any given time. This number is set by government entities.
  • Especially during Phase 1 of reopening where there is a restriction on the number of people allowed in the gym at any given time, we ask that you please be cognizant of the time you are spending in the gym … so that others may utilize the facilities.
  • We will not be open 24 hours a day at the beginning of the reopening. As restrictions change, we will reevaluate this policy. The gyms will not be open unless there is a staff member present. With that said, we are working toward adding extended staff hours to the beginning of the day and also at the end of the day.
  • We have purchased an airPHX system for each of the gyms. This is an air filtration system that eradicates pathogens at a cellular level. It kills CORONAVIRUS, mRSA, staph, norovirus, E coli, mold, and odor problems.  This system offers the newest science that kills bacteria and other germs and the odors they cause … in the air and on surfaces in the gym. They will be installed as soon as they are delivered to us.

Here are some things we expect you to implement to help keep our gyms, staff, personal trainers, and members safe:
  • Stay home if you feel unwell or if you’ve been in contact with someone who is/has been sick.
  • Wash your hands often ... and for the recommended 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Clean your cell phone frequently.
  • Cover coughs/sneezes with your elbow.
  • Use the antimicrobial sanitizer wipes to clean equipment before and after use.
  • Stay at least 6 feet apart when moving throughout the gym.
  • We strongly suggest that you wear a face mask or cloth face covering in the gym.
  • Be considerate of staff, personal trainers, and the members of theGYMkc [remember, we’re all in this together].

For more detailed information from the CDC on COVID-19 and their suggestions on how to protect yourself, go to https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.

If you have any questions about theGYMkc’s prevention protocol or cleaning methods please don't hesitate to contact us: contact.theGYMkc@gmail.com.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation, and welcome back to theGYMkc. We’ve missed you!

theGYMkc will close on FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 2020 at 4pm
Unfortunately, after much thought and many tears, we've decided we must temporarily close all three of theGYMkc locations.
Our hope is to re-open early April, but we will continue to evaluate the current situation and update our website as more information becomes available.

We know this is hard on everyone, but we know as a family, theGYMkc will weather the storm if we stick together
[separately ... with perfect hygiene and adequate social distancing].

No membership payments will be processed during the closure.
Once we reopen, we will credit everyone's membership access accordingly.
We will resume automatic monthly payments as soon as the mandated closure is lifted.
If you wish to discontinue your monthly membership, please make sure to cancel BEFORE the automatic payments resume.
Your monthly billing dates will remain the same: 1st or 15th.

All prepaid 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month memberships will be paused effective today and reactivated upon reopening.
We are working on providing more at-home content,
but in the meantime our EXERCISE DIRECTORY is full of things you can do while you’re self-isolating at home.

We will continue to post updates on theGYMkc.com ... but you can also follow us on FACEBOOK for updates.

Back by POPULAR demand:
It’s the 12-Class Challenge!

GET A HEAD START ON YOUR GOOD HABITS!

Summer is coming to an end ... and the holiday season is right around the corner. There’s no time better than the present to get ... and to stay healthy. So theGYMkc is giving you an incentive to get a jump start on what’s important ... YOU!

This is THE CHALLENGE! Take 12 classes in the month of October … and receive a SWAG BAG filled with LOCAL SWAG that includes the following:
  • a theGYMkc t-shirt or a theGYMkc stocking cap
  • swag from Clear 10 Vodka
  • ... and much more

That’s only 12 classes in 31 days. With 37 classes offered each week, you could theoretically reach the goal by October 3rd [Ha!].

To keep track of your progress, check in to theGYMkc’s Facebook or Instagram pages with the hashtag #NoExcuseOctobertheGYMkc. Be the most creative with your posts ... and you could possibly win a free month to theGYMkc.

Once you reach the 12-class goal, fill out the Completed Challenge Form [see below] and then turn in your Printed 12-Class Tracking Form [see below] to the front desk. Within a few days, your “incentive” will be waiting for you at your chosen theGYMkc location.

theGYMkc: Uptown UPDATE: July 30, 2019

7/30/2019

If you didn’t know before now …
this building is getting a FACELIFT.
Along with that, 200+ apartments will be built on top of the existing structure.

theGYMkc will move to the main floor … into a brand new space.

Bear with us for the next several months … as the developers prepare our new gym location.
We’re excited about the future!

We know you have a lot of questions … but the ONLY place to find the answers is right here.
Please do not ask the desk staff. They will only tell you the same: “Check the website."

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available
[and when we are authorized to do so by the developers].

Thank you for your support, understanding, and patience.

Jonetta, Owner
Monica, General Manager

***The only update we have at the moment is ... we have a blue privacy fence surrounding the property. ***

theGYMkc: River Market UPDATE: June 10, 2019

6/10/2019

We are getting a lot closer. We are more frustrated than anyone because this portion of the restoration has been completely out of our hands.
The building owner is responsible for the structure [bathrooms, ceilings, walls, electrical, plumbing, HVAC].
They have run into multiple delays for things even they can't control.
We can't get the portion that we control started until they have completed theirs.

Once the landlord's company has completed their work and the building is released back to us,
we will have a better idea of how long it will take to properly treat the salvageable equipment and
how long it will take to ship and install the brand new equipment [these will occur simultaneously].
We will wait to determine a reopening date until all factors are in our control.

In the meantime, keep an eye on our website and Facebook page.
We'll update everyone when we have better information to give.

Thanks to those who put a little pressure on the landlord's company.
The property
manager said she has heard from several of you wanting to know:

"When will theGYMkc be reopened? I want MY gym back!"

theGYMkc: River Market UPDATE: January 22, 2019

1/22/2019

Phase 1 of cleaning at theGYMkc: River Market has been completed.

Now the contractors for each specialized portion of the rebuild are being lined up: electricians, plumbers, HVAC, etc.
Some tasks/projects can be completed concurrently, while others must be done sequentially.
That means, there are still too many factors in play to be able to predict a reopening date.
We're getting closer to knowing, but unfortunately we aren't quite there yet.

We'll update the website and our Facebook page again once we reach a few more milestones.

Thanks for your support.

As soon as we have any information about the reopening of the River Market,
you'll be the 2nd to know [I'll be the 1st ... ha!].

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

¡ja!].
